Making Disciples of Jesus

Our church loves our community. We believe in serving our community and all members who are a part of it.

Backyard Club
  • Backyard Club is a spring/summer outreach ministry at the Evergreen Manors Apartment Complex in Altoona held every Tuesday from 6-7pm. It is an hour of games, crafts, bible story, and snack with kids ages 4-12.   Backyard Club Ministry’s objective is to take the church to the neighborhood as opposed to waiting for the neighborhood to come to the church.

Evergreen Dinner Church
  • Dinner Church happens during the fall/winter months at the Evergreen Manors Apartment Complex in Altoona every other Tuesday evening from 6-7pm. It is an hour of food and fellowship with families living at Evergreen. Volunteers provide dinner and desserts and serve the meal. A brief time of Worship led by Pastor Rich immediately follows the meal.

Mexico Mission Team
  • The Hicks Church Mexico Mission Team partners with YUGO ministries to send a team to their Ensenada, Mexico campus where they partner with local churches to build a home for a family in need and provide a Vacation Bible School and feeding program for the children.

United Methodist Women
  • UMW is an organization impacting lives everywhere in multiple ways. Our unit at Hicks provides fellowship and educates members to the UMW vision which is turning faith, hope, and love into action on behalf of women, children and youth around the world. Monthly UMW meetings are held in our Social Hall.

Meals & Ministry (M&M)
  • This ministry was started for the United Methodist Women as a way to be "love in action" in the community.  It is, however, a church wide ministry open to the entire congregation. M&Ms occur monthly and the ministry rotates with visiting shut ins, the Mission Central Hub, and the Rescue Mission in Hollidaysburg. The dates, times and locations are listed in the bulletin and newsletter. Come just for the meal, the ministry, or both.

Soup Saturdays
  • A free meal for the community. Lunch is served in our downstairs Social Hall. Exact dates are established each year but normally begin in the second half of January and end before the middle of March. Volunteers to make soup and help serve are always welcome.

Prayer Quilt Ministry
  • A dedicated and skilled team of quilters create beautiful quilts to give to people of the community in need. The team looks to give their quilts to persons in special need of prayer. Each quilt is given with much care and prayer. You can request a quilt for someone you know that may need the encouragement.

Altoona Mission Central Hub
  • The Methodist churches of our area support a local arm of Mission Central, our conference distribution center in Mechanicsburg. The HUB in Altoona assists by assembling school, layette, health kits and cleaning buckets for those in need. We volunteer at the Altoona HUB the first Monday of every month.

Community Thanksgiving Meal
  • Held the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we invite the whole community to join us for a free and delicious Thanksgiving meal.

Coats and Shoes
  • We provide funds to purchase new coats and shoes to kids in our community whose families are having trouble providing them. We do this in partnership with the Hollidaysburg Area School District Elementary School Nurses to ensure confidentiality and that the kids who need it most are receiving help.
