MISSIONS

Making Disciples of Jesus

Our church loves community, and we believe in serving our community and all members who are a part of it. Below is a list of some of the missionary work we take part in.
All of these ministries are open to volunteers and any help you may want to provide.

If you're interested in serving as the hands and feet of God, contact the church office at office@hicksumc.org

Evergreen Dinner Church

Dinner Church happens every first Monday of the month at 6 P.M. at Evergreen Manors. Folks from Hicks gather with members of the Evergreen community and share in a devotional and prayer over a family meal. Volunteer opportunities include providing food for the meals, and attending the dinners.

Backyard
Club (BYC)

Backyard Club is a summer outreach ministry at Evergreen Manor every Tuesday at 6 P.M. We play games, do crafts, have a Bible story, and offer snacks for the kids. Volunteers can sign up as frequently as available.

Women in Faith

Women in Faith is an organization impacting lives everywhere in multiple ways. Our vision is to turn faith, hope, and love into action on behalf of women, children, and youth around the world.

Meals &
Ministry

The goal of Meals & Ministry is to provide love to our community through meals and fellowship. Meals and Ministry provides food to those who are grieving, recently welcomed a child, are experiencing health problems, or other significant life changes. Volunteer opportunities include providing and delivering meals to members of our church community.

Prayer Quilt Ministry

A dedicated and skilled team of quilters create beautiful pieces to give to people of the community in need. These quilts are prayed over with the goal of providing encouragement to those in need.

Altoona Mission Central Hub

The Methodist churches of our area support a local arm of Mission Central. The HUB in Altoona assists by assembling school bags, layettes, health kits, and cleaning buckets for those in need. Volunteer and donation opportunities are generally listed in the bulletin.

Coats and
Shoes

We provide funds to purchase new coats and shoes for kids in our community whose families are having trouble buying them. We do this in partnership with the Hollidaysburg School District to ensure the kids who need it most are receiving help.

No Strings Attached

This ministry has an emphasis and care for the homeless population. Throughout the year, volunteers collect donations to hand out to the homeless in the surrounding area. The group also takes regular trips outside of our local community to hand out necessities to the homeless. Volunteers may donate needed items, which are often listed in the bulletin, or go on mission trips.
